Once we delved a little further into Kirsten’s background and her dedication to creating eco-mindful, meticulously researched (not to mention stunning), one-of-a-kind pieces… we knew her work was perfect for the Green with Glamour collection. “Metal is in my blood. My great grandfather had a metalsmithing shop in Austria. His son, my grandfather, was a sheet metal worker and my other grandfather was a coppersmith. My mother was an antiques dealer and when I was very young, she gave me a vintage silver ring that looked like a garland of flowers. That ring was the start of my first collection, but I knew then that I didn’t just want to collect jewelry, I wanted to make it.” “Most of the stones I use are found in the United States and acquired from rock hounds I’ve come to know and trust. The agates and jaspers are found in gravel pits, along lake shores and riverbeds. I do a lot of my own stone cutting from rock found in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. I also recycle many stones from vintage pieces and the fossils in my work are only acquired from privately owned land… I’m always exploring more conscious and sustainable options for my jewelry materials.” KM |
